Macintosh HardwareMacintosh Hardware comes in two varieties. The original Macs ran on Motorola 68000 series processors and are commonly reffered to as 68K Macs. Newer Macintoshes use PowerPC processors, which are a joint Apple, IBM, and Motorola venture. Expansion card bus topology varies by model, with newer Macs being PCI based and older Macs using either NuBus or Processor Direct Slots.
System SoftwareSystem Software is the focus of this section. The most common System Software for the Macintosh is the MacOS. However, you can run many other Operating Systems on Apple Macintosh hardware. There are many different releases of MacOS. Some newer Macs require newer versions of the MacOS in order to run and some older Macs cannot run newer versions of the MacOS.
